Riding Naked!

Free as the wind and I loved every minute of it.... Hundreds of enviro-riders from the greater PDX area gathered last night for a dance party and naked bike ride, which ended up sweeping through downtown and SE before returning to a naked dance party. OK, so there was naked dancing *before* the ride too, but what are you gonna do with a room full of beautiful people who have gathered specifically to get naked and raise awareness of the issues caused by dependency on fossil fuels...?

Here's a great introduction from some of the pioneers of this activity:

  1. The WORLD NAKED BIKE RIDE Documentary - Part 1
  2. The WORLD NAKED BIKE RIDE Documentary - Part 2
  3. The WORLD NAKED BIKE RIDE Documentary - Part 3
  4. The WORLD NAKED BIKE RIDE Documentary - Part 4

Just one part of the great opportunity every day during Pedalpalooza!

...but wait! There's more....

This awesome video from Dan Kaufman pretty much mirrors my experience of last night. Wonder if you'll recognize anyone in the '07 edition....

Cranking Chain

I'm thinking there's something to this track thing,... even if they do use 'roadie' as a pejorative term when describing race events. ;-)

The Eric Kautzky Memorial Track Race had lots of great action, and in addition to this video pictures are in the file share.

Home for the Holidays

...and no matter how far apart we are... Ah, I can hear Bing singing it now....

It was a great trip (except for the cancelled flight home and driving through blizzard conditions to catch the next one) and we had such fun playing with all the neices and sharing stories and giving gifts with our families. We shared quite the celebration in spite of ever-changing plans!

Back to Work

Well, Mom and Dad are flying between PDX and DIA right now, and I'm back at Hostbaby for my normal "Monday" shift.

I had a blast showing them around Portland and feasting at several of our favorite restaurants (not to mention the almost daily trips to Alotta Gelato after introducing that gem of NW 23rd Ave). We made it down to Junction City for a lovely visit with Dorrance, Norma, Marv and Judy (relatives that I had not previously met). The Rose Garden, Japanese Garden, the Made in Oregon store, Finnegan's Toys, the Bike Gallery location where I scored my hot Orbea ride, and a Spirit of Portland Lewis and Clark Exploration Cruise were other highlights during their visit.

Waterfront Park

I picked Dad up to arrive just on time to see the express start of the Bridge Pedal. Can't wait to run the course next year and pause atop Fremont, legally. ;-)

Of course, the Bite wasn't running at 6:30am so we strolled around the event, watching all the riders register and cruise along their chosen routes, and along Waterfront Park.

The Folks Arrive

Mom and Dad flew into PDX this afternoon for a week-long visit! We enjoyed a lovely dinner under the huge tree on the deck at Tara Thai before I gave them a basic orientation to the metro area.

Tomorrow they'll probably wander up to the St. Honoré Boulangerie for a pastry while I work, but Sunday is the Bridge Pedal and the Bite of Oregon, so I hope we can go see some of the action....
